Sligo Leitrim U14 girls travelled to play Galway in their last Inter League group match at the weekend.

It was always going to be a tough match against a team who have been Inter League Cup finalists the past two seasons.

Sligo Leitrim found themselves under early pressure but stood firm and then started to come more into the game themselves, with the game scoreless at half time.

The second half saw Sligo Leitrim start to create more chances and they were rewarded when Ava Hallinan's shot was saved and Nessa Fox pounced on the rebound to give Sligo Leitrim the lead. Erin Farry came close to increasing the lead with a powerful, long range free kick, which was well saved by the Galway goalkeeper.

Galway pressed for an equaliser but Sligo Leitrim defended resolutely, including a superb one on one save from Ivana McMahon. Sligo Leitrim showed great determination to see out the remainder of the game and get over the line with the 1-0 victory.

The result means that Sligo Leitrim top their group with three wins out of three. They now enter the knockout stages of the Cup and will be back in action with a quarter final in January.
